Is there a return on investment posting BBS ads like multiple times per week? I feel like once a year is plenty.

Ads get burried. bbses come and go dude. they can be here one day and gone the next. i dont care as long as someone isn't posting every single fucking day. People have done that in the past.

Hard to say, but I think that's excessive. There are some that post
EVERY SINGLE DAY. Once a year is not enough. I've settled on 3x/month,
but everybody's got their own opinion.

There are still some people posting every day. I guess not here in
DoveNet, but certainly in some other FTNs. That's too often, IMHO.

It's kinda like the old Aesop's Fable about "The Boy That Cried Wolf". Eventually nobody listened any more and ignored him.

No multiple times per week probably gains you nothing. Posting once a week
or twice a month is probably just as good. People who post them every day usually get on people's nerves.

On FIDO they sure do. I suspect some of them don't know how to set up
their autopost routine to any other frequency.

It's seen on several other networks, too. Agreed that it's a lack of knowledge in many cases, and done intentionally in some cases. It
actually causes me to not even want to bother calling (as I mentioned in
a recent post - the "Boy Who Cried Wolf' syndrome).

Also common with "autopilot" sysops who don't even know what's going on
with their systems, and don't even check anything for weeks/months at a
    time. Aaarrgggghhhh.

I used to do daily, but I've seen the light and have since eased off.

I've settled on weekly ads, and rotate between a couple different ones, plus occasional ads around holidays just for fun.

Overall I like seeing ads, because I like seeing ANSI even if I've seen it before, plus it helps to know which boards are still around and which boards are new. Even if the same stuff pops up daily, it takes only a few seconds to skim through them in my message scan. Not a big deal really.

I was referring to the investment of time to post so many. From the answers I had received prior to this, it seems that the posts are mainly automatic. I don't mind reading past the same ones over and over, I was just curious if posting so much was effective. So far I haven't seen anyone say that it was/is for them.

You have hit on a reason or two why I like seeing them. I can remember
back in the 1980s/90s when we used to have very active ANSI art echoes that contained art from even non-sysops. I still do enjoy seeing ANSI art, and
I enjoy the ads when sysops switch them up a little bit every now and
    then. ;)

    I ignore the ads.

If there were far fewer, I'd probably pay attention. I guess its like all advertising. The less there is, the more impact it has.

I mainly meant for FTN ad echos. I think my ads in DOVE-Net have always been weekly for as long as I've been posting them.
